2467 Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to the memory of Jacob H. ``Bud'' Blitzer. Bud was a man of integrity and tremendous resilience, who used his creativity, intelligence, humor, and a sense of fairness to navigate through a life of great challenges.A victim of polio at age 27, Bud--never one for self-pity--became a successful businessman, consultant, educator, mentor, and all around mensch. Most important to him were the relationships he cultivated with family, friends, the I Have a Dream Foundation, and the many people fortunate enough to know him. But, with his brother-in-law Len Milner, founded Integrated Ceilings, Inc., specializing in innovative architectural custom ceiling designs. He held many patents for designs which have enhanced numerous office buildings, retail stores, and homes. These innovations inspired an entire industry of ceiling design. He ran his company with the highest standards of honesty, quality, and excellence. This commitment was reflected by the employees of the company who were loyal and proud of their product and most of whom remained with the company throughout the entire time that Bud was its president and CEO.But did not limit himself to his company. He also served as a mentor for many young entrepreneurs as they began their businesses as well as many people who were struggling with the challenges of life. One notable example was Tom Greene of the T.A. Greene Co., of whom Bud was known to have said, ``I started out helping Tom, but in the end, it was he who helped me.''Bud was a jazz drummer in his youth, served as an officer in the Army Air Corps, and was founder and president of the Lightrend Co., prior to founding Integrated Ceilings, Inc. An avid sailor and a jazz enthusiast, a conversationalist par excellence, Bud's greatest gift was to make each person he spoke with feel special. Our thoughts are with Bud's family: his wife Dalia; children Jamie and Rob, along with his wife Donna; sisters Barbara and Susan and their husbands George and Len; grandchildren Rebecca and Erica; two great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and many friends who were part of the extended family.Mr. Speaker, distinguished colleagues, please join me in remembering a great friend and outstanding individual, Jacob ``Bud'' Blitzer. Blitzer, Jacob Harrison Jr. (I10500)

2479 Ms. Janet B. Hunt (née Janet Berney) died peacefully at home after a long illness on November 10, 2018 in Charlotte, North Carolina at the age of 61.

Janet is survived by husband, H. Thomas Hunt, surviving children, Emily Hunt, residing in New York, Stephanie Hunt, of Montpelier, Vermont, and Allison Kranyak, of Greenville South Carolina, and sisters; Elizabeth Berney of Great Neck, New York and Diane Gluck of White Plains, New York. She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter Jennifer, of Charlotte.

Janet was born on April 27, 1957 in the Bronx, New York to Henry & Roslyn Berney. She graduated from the Cornell University in 1978 with B.S. degree in industrial and labor relations, and from University of Pennsylvania law school in 1981. She married Tom Hunt, whom she met in law school in 1981. She had an illustrious career as a lawyer, having clerked for federal district judge John P. Fullam after law school, and then working for several years for the prestigious Philadelphia law firm of Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis before joining Travelers Mortgage Services, Inc., where she ultimately served as Senior Vice President and Chief Counsel. Upon Travelers' acquisition by the General Electric Company, she assumed the role of Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, GE Capital Mortgage Services, Inc. She then joined Federal National Mortgage Association, commonly known as Fannie Mae, as Vice President & Deputy General Counsel. In 2007 she and her family moved to Charlotte, where she finished her career as Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Bank of America. Janet was always particularly proud of the example she set for her children, juggling her role as a mother and her career with finesse and aplomb, and sharing family responsibilities with her husband, Tom. She and her job sharing partner were featured in the September, 2003 issue of Diversity and the Bar as a paradigm for those female attorneys successfully managing their work/life balance.

Janet's children will always fondly remember Janet as a warm, loving mother who lead by example, gave the best advice any mother could give without any pre-judgement, and who inspired her daughters to become independent and strong young women. She had a kind sense of humor even into her last days and stayed strong always in her battle against her disease.

During the period of her long illness, Janet was bat mitzvahed after a strenuous course of study, and also became accomplished tournament bridge player, achieving the rank of bronze Life Master in 2018. She played a mean game of scrabble, and could always be counted on by her children, husband, friends and colleagues for the quality of her sage and well-thought out counsel and advice.

Her funeral will be at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Temple Beth-El, 5101 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC with interment at the Hebrew Cemetery.

2480 Murder Victim. Bruce was a wealthy bookie based in Las Vegas when he disappeared in 1996. His live-in girlfriend, Amy DeChant, initially denied any knowledge of his disappearance. However, she later told investigators that Bruce was killed by the mob and that they threatened to kill her if she told anyone. A month later, Bruce's body was discovered in a shallow grave near Mesquite, Nevada. Following an investigation, DeChant was eventually arrested. She posted bail and promptly disappeared. After being featured on an episode of "America's Most Wanted," police received a tip that she was living in a nudist colony in Florida. She was returned to Nevada and tried and convicted of his murder, receiving two life sentences for the crime. However, the Nevada Supreme Court later vacated the sentence because the jury was unduly influenced by comments that should have been ruled inadmissible by the judge who presided over the trial. Rather than mounting another prolonged trial, the prosecutors negotiated a plea deal from DeChant for second degree murder, and she was given 10 to 25 years in prison. She has already been paroled.

2487 My mother, Edith Aron, who has died aged 96, was a German writer, translator and teacher, with strong ties to South American literature.

Born in Homburg, in the Saarland, she was the daughter of Sigmund Aron, a businessman, and his wife, Elisabeth (nee Wolf), a nurse. In 1934, her parents having separated, she was taken by her mother to join family in Buenos Aires, where she spent the rest of her childhood, attending the Pestalozzi school.

After the war, a letter arrived from her father, announcing that he had survived in France; Edith went back to Europe to visit him in 1950. She then moved to Paris, where she studied music history at the Paris Conservatoire under Alexis Roland-Manuel and became close to the poet Paul Celan, the novelist Günter Grass, the artist Sergio de Castro, and the writer Julio Cortázar, who told his publisher that Edith was the inspiration for La Maga, the character in his celebrated novel Hopscotch.

In Paris, Edith translated novels, short stories and poems by other friends - Jorge Luis Borges, Octavio Paz and Silvina Ocampo - into German, introducing much South American literature to German audiences for the first time.

In the late 50s she moved to Berlin, studying German literature at the Freie Universitat, as well as working as a translator for radio stations, particularly RIAS Berlin. In 1965 her mother became ill with cancer and Edith moved back to Argentina to be with her.

On a visit to the UK Edith had met an English artist, John Bergin. He followed her first to Paris, where they lived together, and then to Buenos Aires. They got married in 1968 and I was born the same year.

Edith felt strongly that it would be good for me to grow up in Europe, and the family moved to St John's Wood, north London.

She published a collection of short stories in German, Die Zeit in den Koffern (1989). A Spanish translation of her stories appeared as 55 Rayuelas in 2007. Another collection in German, Die Falschen Haüser (1999), was eventually published in English as The False Houses in 2017.

In London Edith separated from John and brought me up by herself. She taught German at the Goethe Institute and to science students at Imperial College, and worked as an A-level examiner and private tutor. Meanwhile, she continued to write short stories.

Her friends and I valued Edith for her uniquely fiery, indomitable character, with a wonderfully positive outlook and wit.
