Joan Glickman, formerly of Southwest Ranches, knew the 40-member Florida Senate so well that many called her the "41st senator." She died Tuesday at age 66.
"She was very enterprising, very brilliant," said Broward Circuit Court Clerk Howard Forman, a former state senator. "She could go around and gather up votes just as well as most senators could."
Ms. Glickman was born Jan. 20, 1943, in New York. She moved to Broward about 22 years ago from Long Island, N.Y.
When a county road project that would impact her area arose, she visited then-County Commissioner Forman, convinced the county to change its plans, and fell in love with government. She served as Forman's legislative chief of staff for 12 years.
David Kuczenski met her in 1993 when he was a law student in Tallahassee and he applied for an internship. They became close friends. "She called me her adopted son."
She'd lived in Southwest Ranches for about 20 years before moving to Tallahassee in 2007.
Ms. Glickman was preceded in death by her longtime partner, Norman Lasure. She is survived by a brother, Bernard Winkler, of Tampa.

2649 October 26, 1931 - March 24, 2018
Marty passed away at the age of 86 in his home, surrounded by love. He was born in New York and attended The Ohio State University where he met and fell in love with Audree Mayer. They were married for 64 years. He served overseas in the Korean War and upon his return, he joined his father's business, Star Binding and Trimming. Audree and Marty lived in the New York area for 50 years while Marty worked very hard and made the business a success. When he retired they moved to Denver, North Carolina and enjoyed their life together on Lake Norman.

Marty was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He was generous and kind and helped many people in need. He was a man of high principles and always told his kids and grandkids to live life to the fullest. He lived his life on the premise that at the end of the day you should be able to hold your head up high and when people walk by you, they should say: "He is a good, honest and honorable man."

Audree and Marty enjoyed traveling the world together. Marty is survived by his wife Audree, their 3 children, and 7 grandchildren.
