  William McClure Bailey, 71, of the 2600 block of Springhaven Drive, died Jan. 14, 2000, at Sentara Leigh Hospital. Born in Courtland, Va., Mr. Bailey retired as a master sergeant after 20 years in the U.S. Army. He then joined the Virginia Beach Police Department, where he served the community until his retirement after 25 years as a master police officer. He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Marietta B. and husband James Ries of Baltimore, Lucye B. and husband Jeffrey Caplan of Atlanta, and Melinda Bailey and husband Gregory Buck of Virginia Beach. Mr. Bailey will be missed by a brother, Charles L. and wife Unity Bailey of Suffolk; two sisters, Patsy and husband Bill Tomlin of Franklin, Joyce and husband Tom Winn of Newport News; two granddaughters; two grandsons; three nephews; four nieces; devoted friends and extended family.
