      Esther S. Shur, 93, of Ridgefield, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. She was the loving wife of the late Henry Shur who passed in 2004.

      Mrs. Shur was born in Rochester, NY on November 23, 1924, the daughter of the late Louis and Regina (Lustig) Dunn. Esther graduated from the University of Rochester in 1946 with a degree in Mathematics. After graduation she worked for Eastman Kodak before relocating with her husband to the Washington, D.C. area in 1949.

      Esther raised her family with her husband Henry first in Washington, then in Arlington, VA, and Bethesda, MD. In Washington, Esther worked for the Atomic Energy Commission, the Energy Research and Development Administration, and at the Department of Energy as a program analyst. She was also active in the Capital Speakers Club of Washington, an organization which promoted public speaking skills for women.

      In 1993, Esther relocated with her husband to Boca Raton, FL to be near her family and to help with the care of her young granddaughters. She also lived in University Park, FL.

      A resident of Ridgefield Crossings for the past 14 years, Esther had many hobbies and diverse interests. She was an avid bridge and Scrabble player. She enjoyed fashion, reading and crossword puzzles. Esther followed the stock market and current events daily. She was inquisitive with a keen mind, fun-loving, and family-oriented, qualities that remained with her to the very end.

      Esther is survived by her daughter, Deborah Shur Trinker and her son, Ralph Shur. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Lauren (Trinker) Cannon, Allison Trinker and Melanie (Shur) Douglass. In addition, Mrs. Shur is survived by two great-grandsons, Owen and Nathan Cannon and a great granddaughter, Helena Douglass. Mrs. Shur was predeceased by her son-in-law, Steven Trinker, and by two brothers, Shepard and Richard Dunn.

      Private funeral services will be held in Bushnell, Florida at the Florida National Cemetery
