- ames Allen Shapiro, age 77, of Springfield, MO, passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2015. Jim was born on Sept. 3, 1937 in Buffalo, New York, the son of David and Virginia Shapiro. After graduating high school, Jim enlisted in the Navy and traveled the world. He later joined the United States Capitol Police department and retired at the rank of Sergeant in 1980. He moved his family to Springfield, MO where he opened multiple businesses, including Maaco, Springfield Unibody, and Key Largo. He was known for his incredible work ethic and how he would do most anything for a laugh. Jim loved to travel and was always the life of the party. His later years were fulfilled with his involvement with the Springfield Parrot Head Club where he enjoyed abounding friendships. Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father; sister, Gloria; brother, Earl; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Williams and her husband, Brian, of Nixa, MO; his sons, Gary Shapiro and Randy Brann, of Norfolk, Virginia; his son Jeffrey (Yosef) Shapiro and wife Etyl, of Jerusalem, Israel; his nephew, Michael Shapiro, of Albuquerque, NM; and 11 grandchildren. Visitation and funeral will take place at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Visitation is Monday, August 10 from 6-8pm and funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 11 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at Veteran's Cemetery with full military honors.
