  Suffolk Police Arrest Welder In Hit-Run Deaths of Couple An ''overwhelming response by the public'' led detectives to a 33-year-old man who was arrested in the hit-and-run deaths of a Florida couple, the Suffolk County police said today. The man, Anthony S. Safuto of 30 Celia Street in Patchogue, was arrested at his home Saturday night and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, the police said. Mr. Safuto, a welder, was accused of driving the car that struck and killed Lester Migdol, 69, and his wife, Sylvia, 67, of Delray, Fla., outside Temple Beth El in Patchogue Thursday evening, Detective Lieut. Joseph Napolitano said. The couple were in Patchogue to attend the bat mitzvah of their granddaughter. Instead, a funeral was scheduled for today, and the ceremony for the girl was postponed until next week. Lieutenant Napolitano said Mr. Safuto said he realized he had been in an accident but did not know anyone was hurt. The lieutenant said alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
