Notes |
- Hugh B. Curtis of Danvers, former co-owner of the Revere Journal, died Sunday at home. He was 58.
Born in Arkansas, Mr. Curtis was raised and educated in Revere. He graduated from Revere High School in 1961 and attended Northeastern University.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War.
Mr. Curtis spent many years in the publishing business. He was the co-owner of the Revere Journal and Revere Journal Publishing Co. for more than 20 years. He retired from B&W Press, Georgetown.
Mr. Curtis was one of the first patients to be treated with an experimental drug for heart disease. The drug produced the growth of arteries that would act as natural bypasses for the clogged arteries. His successful experience was chronicled on television by the ABC network in a medical show called "The Pulse." There were also articles in the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Journal and the Salem Evening News.
Mr. Curtis served his community by becoming an assistant Scout leader of Troop 155 at St. Richard's Church, Danvers. He also coached in the Danvers Girls Softball League. He was a former member of the Lions Club of Revere.
Mr. Curtis is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Hegenberger); his son, David Curtis of New Hampshire; two daughters, Karyn Bedard of Danvers and Allison LaCava of Lynn; his sister, Lou Knox of Texas; and four grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. tomorrow at St. Richard's Church, Danvers.
Burial will be in Walnut Grove, Danvers.
