Mrs. Balaban, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., was the widow of Paul Balaban. She was a member of Temple Israel in Norfolk. In her younger years, she was very active in the community, volunteering at Norfolk General Hospital and she was instrumental in bringing the Beth Sholom Home Nursing Center to the Tidewater area. She was also a lifetime member of Hadassah, and active member in the Beth El Sisterhood and the Hebrew Ladies Charity. Survivors include her two sons, Alan Balaban and his wife, Michaella, of Norfolk, David Balaban and his wife, Joan, of Virginia Beach; and five grandchildren, Randy, Lori, Melissa, Jody and Evan.
