Notes |
- Sarah Rose Pieser died peacefully at her home in New Ulm on Sunday, July 5, 2009. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Bess Kitsis; husband Richard Pieser; and a son-in-law, Bernie Shamblott. She is survived by her son Ben Pieser and wife Vicki of New Ulm; daughter Shellie Shamblott of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Scott Shamblott and wife Kate, Andrea Dickstein and husband Mike, Stacy Shamblott, Jodi Shamblott, Betsy Pieser and Joshua Pieser; and five great-grandchildren: Alison, Evan, and Alexander Dickstein, Matthew Wertheimer and Rachel Shamblott. She was born in Mason City, Iowa on May 23, 1917 to Samuel and Bess (Goss) Kitsis. She graduated from high school there and immediately went to work as a secretary and later a sales person. She married Richard Pieser in Mason City in 1941. After his discharge from the Army, they moved to New Ulm where together they founded New Ulm Furniture Co. Sarah was a member of the Brown County Historical Society, Hadassah, New Ulm Country Club and the Grey Ladies. Sarah was a natural businesswoman who loved waiting on and visiting with customers and assisting them with interior decorating. Always impeccably dressed, and more recently carrying a cane matching every outfit, she continued working at the furniture store until last Thursday. She enjoyed golf, bridge and entertained her friends in Scottsdale and New Ulm with her hostess skills, cooking and sharp wit. A sick neighbor or friend could count on excellent chicken soup and comfort from her, valued Jewish traditions she learned from her Russian immigrant parents. Most of all, she was devoted to her family members and loved caring for them.
