  Ludwig Wolpert, sculptor of Jewish ceremonial objects and an artist-in-residence at the Jewish Museum in Manhattan, died Friday at Mount Sinai Medical Center. He was 81 years old and a resident of Manhattan. In 1956, Mr. Wolpert, who was born and trained in metal craft in Germany, had recently arrived in the United States from Israel when he was asked to serve as resident artist of the Jewish Museum. Mr. Wolpert emigrated from Germany to Palestine in 1933. He had been a professor of metal craft at the New Bezalel School for Arts and Crafts in Jerusalem. He was also former professor of visual arts at the University of Judaism, a branch of the Jewish Theological Seminary in Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife, the former Betty Heinrich, and a daughter, Chava Wolpert Richard of Rego Park, Queens.
