- DOLSEY, DR. RICHARD L. Dr. Richard L. Dolsey, a longtime physician and Miami resident, passed away on April 9, 2008. He was the youngest and strongest 62 year old in the world. Dr. Dolsey, a Richmond native, attended William and Mary College, where he received a Bachelors of Science in Biology. Upon graduation, he was accepted to the Medical School of Virginia, where he became a Doctor of Medicine in 1972. After his Surgical Internship at University of Miami/ Jackson Memorial Hospital, he stayed at the UM Medical Center for residency training in General Surgery. He then served as the Chief of the Emergency Department at Palmetto General Hospital from 1974 to 1977. Over the last 30 years, Dr. Dolsey was renowned in the medical community as the esteemed founder and Director of Medicine for Physicians Health Center, a medical center geared towards servicing South Florida companies. During his tenure, Dr. Dolsey served as a medical consultant to several of the largest workers compensation networks in the State of Florida. He served as President of the Florida Association of Occupational and Environmental Medicine from 1991-94. In addition, he was an Expert Medical Advisor for the Florida Division of Workers' Compensation, a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner, a Certified Medical Review Officer, a Program Director for the Florida Worker's Compensation Institute, a Diplomat for the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review, an Advisory Board Member of the Florida Worker's Compensation Reporter, a Director of the Dade County Yellow Fever and Travel Immunizations Center, a Former Chief of Staff at Larkin General Hospital, a Medical Advisory Board Member of the City of Hialeah Fire Rescue, and a Former Instructor of the Miami-Dade School of Medical Technology. Dr. Dolsey was published in several medical journals and gave many speeches throughout the State of Florida, especially on the topics of Occupational and Preventative medicine. Dr. Dolsey was a very well respected, learned doctor who helped thousands of patients during his medical career. This brilliant, dedicated physician was an incredible family man, survived by his loving wife Junko, children, Niki and Scott, and sister, Carolyn. Dr. Dolsey will forever be remembered for his mentoring, teaching, humor, larger than life personality, constant pursuit of happiness, and for being a man of his word. He was extremely thoughtful and cared greatly for everyone he knew. He was a world traveler, an avid reader, a music enthusiast and guitarist, and a great basketball and football fan. He was an athlete that enjoyed weight training, water-skiing, windsurfing, snow-skiing, fishing, golf and tennis. Above all, Dr. Dolsey was a man who truly loved life and the people who shared it with him. He will be greatly missed.
