    • Gilbert Weinberger, 93, of Waverly Twp., died Saturday evening. His wife is the former Caryl Schlossman Picker.

      Born in Old Forge, he was a son of the late Gus and Lena Klein Weinberger. He was a graduate of Old Forge High School, attended Carleton College, was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and received an MBA from Harvard University.

      He served as a captain in the Army during WWII in Germany and was awarded the Purple Heart.

      He was a prominent businessman and real estate developer with offices in Clarks Summit. Gilbert was the major influence in the sculpting career of his wife, who went under the professional name of Caryl Picker.

      He was a life member and a past president of the Bichor Cholem Congregation, Old Forge, he was a member of the board of the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa. and served on other business, civic and religious boards in addition to his many philanthropic endeavors.

      He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Acacia Lodge F&AM, Taylor, and was a member of Kiwanis International for more than 50 years.

      Also surviving are a son, Peter Weinberger, Oregon; two stepdaughters, Caryn Anne Picker, Florida; and Pamela Lee Picker, Vermont and son, Asher Picker Schonfeld, who he adored as a grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

      He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Louis, attorney Julius, Harold and Murray Weinberger.

      The funeral will be Tuesday at noon in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with services by Rabbi Benny Rapoport.

      Interment in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery. -
