GERALD BENJAMIN Chairman of the Board of Benjamin News Inc., passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2009. Mr. Benjamin was born in Montreal on July 1, 1923, son of Charles and Hilda Benjamin, received his education at McGill University, and served in the Canadian Army as a lieutenant during the Second World War. An avid traveler, photographer, archaeologist, art connoisseur and collector, his explorations and expeditions carried him throughout the world, from the Silk Road to the pre-Columbian sites of Central and South America to the jungles of Borneo and the deserts of Africa. A true adventurer. A devoted alumnus of McGill he has been a generous benefactor to that institution and its hospital, as well as The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Mr. Benjamin is predeceased by his first wife, Patricia Pearson Benjamin, and is profoundly mourned by his children from that marriage: Paul, and his wife Leslie, and their children Adam, and his wife, Lauren Brownstein, Sebastien, and Stephanie; John, and his children, Jennifer and Nicolas; and his daughter Jane. Mr. Benjamin is further predeceased by his second wife, Mimi Dupuis, and survived by his step-daughter from that marriage, Rachel Dupuis, her husband and children. He leaves his beloved widow, Cynthia Copper Benjamin and his grieving stepchildren from that marriage, Pia Camilla Copper and Lucina Copper Danielson, as well as the latter's children, Asher, Christian, Thalia, Indigo, and Jasper. His death is also mourned by his brother, Peter and his wife, Sonia, of Houston, Texas, and by Lois Vosberg, sister of his first wife, Patricia, and her husband Fred. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his extended family and his many friends throughout the world.
