  On April 24, 2010, Gail Halpern died peacefully at Dominican Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 67. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Stephen, her son Douglas, her daughter Amy Elizabeth Sullivan, and her beloved grandchildren Jesse Sullivan and Grayson Sullivan. She also leaves her sister, Barbara Bernstein, her brother, Michael Rosen, her sisters-in-law, Barbara Schneider and Shirley Rosen, her nieces, Lori Bernstein and Wendy Chickering, her nephew, Greg Schneider, and her grand niece, Paige Chickering. Gail had many friends, but Ron and Teri Bernstein, Lynn and Frank Foley, and Lena and Mike Veglia deserve special mention. Gail Rosen was born in Los Angeles and was raised in the San Fernando Valley. She married Stephen Halpern in 1965 and moved to La Selva Beach with her family in 1979. She studied Early Childhood Education in college. She worked for Prudential Insurance in Los Angeles, and in retail sales in Carmel until 1986, when she began working at Family Doctors of Santa Cruz. She loved cooking, hiking, Jazzercise, and shopping, in which she earned the rank of black belt. She was known for her smile, once described as "incandescent." She was very wise, and was often asked for advice regarding relationships, which most often turned out as she predicted. Everyone who met her was her friend, and went on their way feeling better about themselves
