    • HIRSCH--Robert Henry, 88, of Sarasota, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday morning January 27, 2014. He was born to the late Clarence and Ruth Hirsch, May 29, 1925, in Kansas City, MO. Robert graduated from Pembroke Country Day School in 1941 and received a BS in Engineering from the University of California Berkeley in 1944, graduating early to serve in the Navy in World War II. He married the late Pamela Hirsch in 1987, and they lived together in Westport, CT. and New York City, before relocating to Sarasota in 1992. Robert was a businessman and owned a chain of women's clothing stores in Fairfield County, CT, Brooks Hirsch until he retired in 1992. He was passionate about making a difference in the lives of his customers, employees and their families. He also served on the board of Westport Bank and Trust and Fairfield University. He was active with several local charities and foundations including The Nature Center of Westport and The Van Wezel Center of Sarasota. Robert was an active member of Birchwood Country Club, Bird Key Yacht Club and the Longboat Key Club. He was an avid golfer and tennis player. He loved architecture and was inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and the mid century movement. He also loved to travel, especially to his favorite destinations - the South of France and Paris. Although he spent his final years in Florida, his favorite place always remained Westport, CT, enjoying the summer sounds of the water and slurping his beloved Blue Point oysters from his hometown. Robert is survived by three children: Sydney Bellinger, of Rye, NY; Leslie Becker, of Winter Park, FL; and Robert Hirsch, of Austin, TX. He also is survived by three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to the Van Wezel Center for the Performing Arts. A service will be held at 10:30am Friday at Harding Funeral Home. Burial will be held at 11:15 at Willow Brook Cemetery
