- Tucson in 2010
FENN, Berenice Wollstein born July 28, 1919 in Lexington, Kentucky to Richmond Sello and Nellie DeHart Wollstein, died on January 27, 2018. She is survived by five children, Helene (John), Renée, John (Becky), Richmond (Nancy), and David (Kathy); fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, and grandson, Kean. Berenice was reared in Rome, Georgia. Five years of university studies in Rome, Asheville and Philadelphia led to a 34-year teaching career. With her husband, Alvin, of 50 years she lived for 32 years in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. There she taught English Grammar and 7th, 8th and 9th grade U. S., Latin American and World History. Alvin and she retired in Tucson. A life-long learner and avid reader, Berenice learned Spanish and French as an adult. She traveled extensively and made travel a priority for her children. She pursued her interests in psychology, spirituality, humanities and fine arts. Volunteer work was her way of giving thanks for her blessings: collecting money for the sick and elderly; interpreting for doctors; tutoring children and adults in literacy, reading and the English language; and collecting cans and labels for the Knights of Columbus and the mentally retarded. She was known for her energy, compassion, and generous sharing of worthwhile resources. A Mass for her will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church.
