  • Notes
    • Sullivan, William F. III Rochester: Died February 11 at the age of 47, after a lengthy and courageous struggle with a brain injury. Predeceased by his grandparents William F. and Rose M. Sullivan and Arthur F. and Barbara F. Birmingham, by his aunt Nancy J. Palmer, his uncles Robert J. Sullivan and Walter A. Kiel, and by his cousins Colleen M. O'Connor and Richard Hentz. He is survived by his devoted wife Juliet D. Sullivan; his loving daughters Margaret C. (Molly) and Josephine F. R. Sullivan; his parents William F. and Barbara J. Sullivan; his sister Tara R. Sullivan; and his nephew Ossian Sullivan Griffen. He leaves behind a large circle of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and neighbors. Born in New Jersey, Bill spent most of his life in Rochester, where he attended Wilson Magnet High School. A funny and bookish young man, he spent his adolescence biking, swimming, reading Tolkien, and playing Dungeons and Dragons. He went on to earn a B.S. in natural resources at Cornell University and an M.S. in Evaluative Clinical Sciences at Dartmouth College. At these schools he formed close and enduring friendships, which helped mold him into a man of intelligence and integrity. Bill worked in the field of epidemiology for Dartmouth and Strong Memorial Hospital, and subsequently worked as a research analyst in various departments of the City of Rochester, mostly in the Rochester Police Department. In 2004, he married Juliet Sloger, and guided his daughters Molly and Josie into the world. He was a devoted father and beloved husband. Bill was a fierce board game player, a lover of science fiction and fantasy, and a faithful, affectionate son, brother, grandson and friend. A resident of the 19th Ward, Bill honored his community's vision of harmonious diversity and civic engagement. In 2009, he suffered a devastating cerebral hemorrhage that diminished his speech and movement but not his courageous spirit and loving heart. He went on to survive multiple hemorrhages over the subsequent years. A gallant fighter, Bill remained cheerful, kind, and funny to the end of his life. His courage inspired everyone around him. The family wishes to thank the staff of Maxim Health Care and VNS Hospice for their compassionate care of Bill under the meticulous supervision of his mother.
