- Muriel J. (Crosby) Strauss, 92, passed away in Baystate Medical Center on Sunday, October 20, 2013. She was born in Chicopee on March 2, 1921, the daughter of the late Ernest and Eva (Pierce) Crosby. She graduated from Chicopee High School in 1938 and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. She served in the U.S. Navy (WAVES) during World War II, obtaining the rank of Petty Officer Second Class - SK2. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Corona Chapter #205, a member of the American Legion Post 338, a former member of Zonta Club of Springfield and Zonta International. An avid Hockey fan for over 77 years, Muriel was a member of the Springfield Indians, Kings and Falcons Hockey Booster Clubs. She also volunteered at Baystate Medical Center Centennial Gift Shop attaining over 10,000 volunteer hours. She was a former employee of A. G. Spalding Co. and Comfed Bank (formerly Union Federal Savings & Loan) and retired in 1986 as Assistant Vice President. She was a communicant of First Central Baptist Church of Chicopee Falls. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Leonard N. Strauss who passed away in 2004. She is survived by 3 stepchildren, Stephen D. Strauss, Elizabeth L. Macaluso and her husband Nicholas, all of Kenner, LA and Susan J. Collins and her husband Scott in Texas, 2 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. She also leaves 2 brothers, Roy E. Crosby and Bernard M. Crosby, both of West Springfield and several loving nieces and nephews, among them her caregiver, Linda M. Pajak of Feeding Hills, and loving grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Winston G. and Gordon (Bing) Crosby and 4 sisters, Ruby Burgess, Esther Dietrich, Thelma Crosby and Ivoline Bennett. All are welcome to attend as Muriel will be laid to rest with her husband Leonard in Fairview Cemetery.
