Subject: Re: David Simson
I've had a reply from Edinburgh.
David Simson was b in St Andrews on 7 Sept 1892. We don't have an exact d ate for his marriage to Arlette. He was killed on the bridge of HMS Kei th by gunfire from land on 23 May 1940 off Boulogne and was buried at sea.
Arlette died as a result of being hit by a car while on holiday on the is le of Skye with her sister. She may have been visiting David's relatives t here (Col. and Mrs Jock MacDonald). Their grandson Hugh MacDonald and h is wife Linda run the old family house as a hotel (said to be quite good !) and they might have more data. They can be reached via info@viewfieldho use.com
One other comment was passed on to me, which may make sense to you. " we n ever met Arlette but we got the impression that David's parents were somew hat 'thrown' by the suddenness of the marriage and nothing was ever se en of her. Possibly she lived in Dartmouth. An old sextant of David's w as left in his parents' care and was only returned to Arlette in 1971."
That's all folks! Hope it helps,
Ian
