MIRIAM KANN
August 5, 1917 - December 30, 2021
Miriam had the gift of finding joy everywhere, she had an adventurous and honorable life to be proud of and our loss is heaven's gain.
Miriam was born in Wabash, Indiana to Uz and Ruth Votaw and was the third of four children. In 1927 the family moved to Bell, Calif. In 1943 she enlisted in the Coast Guard SPARS where she was trained to be a link trainer operator. After the war, she attended California College of Arts in Oakland. She became an accomplished artist and was commissioned to paint portraits. Her family and friends have treasured paintings that she has gifted to them.
Around 1954, she began working at Southwest/Hughes Airlines (San Francisco). It was there, as the link trainer instructor, that she met Capt. Ralph G. Kann and they were married in 1967. They lived in Santa Cruz where she golfed, painted and prepared gourmet meals. Miriam and Ralph had many joy filled years until his passing in 2011.
In 2012 she moved to Brookdale Riverwalk where she met many new friends. Miriam went on Honor Flight Kern County in 2013. Miriam felt like a celebrity at times. She was in an Optimal Hospice commercial, Honor Flight and Brookdale celebrated her past several birthdays with her and to top it off, she'd be on the evening news!
Miriam was hospitalized in May 2021 and as a result, moved to Arcadia Family Care. By late June, due to excellent care she received from both staff at Arcadia and Bristol Hospice she was enjoying life again and spreading cheer to all. Miriam passed away with family by her side on December 30, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and her beloved husband, Ralph Kann.
Miriam will be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews and their families and many dear friends.
